The Future of Home Entertainment, Here Today with VUDU UHD

blog

It’s 2016 and the annual Consumer Electronics Show is underway. But if you want to check out the latest technology, you don’t have to be in Vegas because VUDU UHD is here!

VUDU UHD is the first new video format we’re introducing in years (since our breakthrough, 1080p HDX). It features the latest in video and audio technologies, including some you may have heard of, like 4K Ultra HD resolution, and some new ones you will be hearing about soon, like High Dynamic Range (HDR) picture and Dolby Atmos audio. With VUDU UHD, we’re creating a premium home cinema experience that will define the future of home entertainment.

So what makes VUDU UHD so exciting? Let’s take a look:

4K

4K Ultra HD resolution video. With over 8 million pixels, it’s four times more detailed than 1080p HDX, which means you’ll be able to see even the subtlest bead of sweat or pick out the tiniest strand of hair.

dolby-vision

Dolby Vision HDR picture. It’s not just about more pixels. It’s better pixels. Movies with Dolby Vision are remastered to take advantage of new hardware and deliver astonishing color, contrast and brightness.

dolby-atmos

Immersive Dolby Atmos audio. One of the best reasons to go to the theater is to experience flowing, room-filling sound. Watch VUDU UHD movies with your Dolby Atmos-enabled sound system and bring that clarity, detail and power home.

Over two dozen movies are now available in VUDU UHD on the VUDU website, and with the right equipment and setup, you can rent or own to watch them today. If you’re not quite VUDU-UHD ready yet, though, no worries. You can still own them in UHD and watch in the highest quality your devices support.

What about those of us who continue to utilize digital copies with blu-Ray purchases and buying directly from Vudu? Is there an upgrade option to go from HDX to UHD?

    Hi Zach,

Sorry, we do not have any option to upgrade the quality of movies. We do have an agreement with studios that allows upgrades of TV episodes to seasons and the quality of the seasons, though.
