New Release Film Review: Get Low

Get Low
Starring: Robert Duvall, Bill Murray, Lucas Black, Sissy Spacek, Bill Cobbs
Director: Aaron Schneider
Sony Pictures Classics
Rated PG-13 for some thematic material and brief violent content

There are few actors who are able to command the screen with their performances, but for those who can, they can do so with a simple look, a simple phrase, and in rare instances, just by being there. Robert Duvall is that class of actor, the kind of thespian who instantly brings credibility and gravitas to his films. In his latest film, Get Low, Duvall brings every part of his fifty plus years of experience as an actor and delivers one of the finest, if not the best, performances of his careers. Get Low is a deeply moving often poignant film that deserves far more accolades than it has received. The film is now available on VUDU to own in SD, HD, and HDX, and will be available to rent in all three formats beginning March 24, 2011.

Digital HD Exclusive: My Fellow Americans

My Fellow Americans
Starring: Jack Lemmon, James Garner, Dan Aykroyd, John Heard, Wilford Brimley
Director: Peter Segal
Warner Bros.
Rated PG-13 for salty language and innuendo

The concept of forcing two complete opposites to work together has been around since the early days of comedy. Often a device used in slapstick (think “The Three Stooges” and “Laurel & Hardy”), the scenario is the perfect way to create comedy gold, as both people will annoy and bug each other with hilarious results. No stranger to this formula was the great actor Jack Lemmon. Throughout his fifty year career in Hollywood, Lemmon starred in some of the most memorable comedies using this method. A perfect example is the underrated 1996 comedy My Fellow Americans, starring Jack Lemmon and James Garner as ex-U.S. Presidents caught up in a conspiracy theory. My Fellow Americans is available digitally exclusive in HD through VUDU, just in time for President’s Day.

Director: Thomas Schlamme

The movie features great comedic performances and throws in a little suspense here and there to keep the audience guessing with its many twists and turns. Now part of VUDU’s $2 for 2 Nights program, you can rent So I Married an Axe Murderer in SD, HD, and HDX starting at just $2, and it is yours to view for 48-hours.
