UNTANGLING THE WEB
October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month, a time to review and learn about ways to keep your data and identity safe online. As a reminder of the risks that an unsecured online presence can pose, Vudu is offering special sale prices on all our favorite cyber crime themed movies featuring hackers, AI, and other net-based phenomena.
Whether you’re in the mood for a high-tech modern thriller like Snowden or The Girl in the Spider’s Web or a cult classic like Hackers or WarGames, this cyber sale has something for everybody. Check out the full sale collection here.
STAY SAFE OUT THERE
Looking to practice better cyber security with your own information (and hopefully avoid the scenarios in the films above)?
Follow these handy tips for a better chance at keeping all your info safe and secure:
Try to maintain unique password with at least eight characters, uppercase and lowercase letters, and numbers and symbols for all of your online accounts. Having different passwords for different accounts and services will prevent a scammer from accessing all of your data just by acquiring one password.
Always Be Updating
Hackers are constantly developing new strategies to obtain information, and companies are constantly developing new defenses to keep them out. Make sure to regularly update all of your software and applications to the latest versions so you aren’t left behind with an out-of-date loophole.
Trust, But Verify
Always be skeptical when you receive unexpected email communications, even if they seem to be from an entity you trust. If something seems off about a message from a bank or other organization or service, contact them through a different method (phone, website, etc.) to confirm that the communication is legitimate before opening. If a message immediately asks for account information or other sensitive info, you should be even more cautious.
