80’s classics your mom would totally let you watch

THE MOTHER OF ALL ANNOUNCEMENTS

News travels fast, just ask anyone who played Girl Talk Date Line (talk about nostalgia callback). So, with the news that the classic 80’s role-reversal movie, Mr. Mom, is arriving as a Vudu-exclusive, free TV series in 2019, we’re celebrating by taking a look at some more of the great 80’s classics currently available for FREE on Vudu.

Everybody’s Working For The 80’s

Who ya gonna call? Way before the reboot brought busting back, we remember pretending to zap Slimer with our proton packs, wanting to live in a decommissioned firehouse, and cowering at the sight of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. So, check out Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2 (don’t cross streams!), the perfect combination of fun, frightening, and free to watch.

Punching meat. Running up stairs. Raining haymakers on a murderer’s row of larger-than-life fighters (including Mr. T). Running up some more stairs. And you can’t get more 80’s than the US vs USSR (I must break you). If the last time you heard Survivor’s Eye of the Tiger was on 12-inch vinyl, it’s time to revisit the legend of the Italian Stallion with Rocky III, III, IV, and V.

Move over, Jared Leto. True Bat-fans remember deadly Smylex gas, the futuristic Batwing, and sold-out Joker merchandise in every store.  Tim Burton’s signature dark and gloomy style officially took flight when a new generation met the Batman.

If you were watching horror movies in 1988, there’s a strong chance you developed a fear of dolls that never went away (ours hasn’t). Chucky’s blood-red hair and fiendishly freckled face haunt the dreams of even the bravest 80s kids. With free streaming, confronting your fear is Child’s Play.

Video killed the radio star

But not the 80s TV stars. Relive those glory days by watching ALF eat cats, unraveling the unknown with Unsolved Mysteries, and learning along with Mr. Wizard’s World guarantee a throwback any day of the week.

NEW THIS WEEK: SORRY TO BOTHER YOU, MAMMA MIA! HERE WE GO AGAIN, AND MORE

PLUS RENTALS AND TV

LARGER THAN LIFE

Some movies are built on grounded, small performances set in carefully recreated real-world settings. These are not those movies. Sit back and enjoy the best of the big, the loud, and the unusual.

How far can hustle, ambition, and skill take you when moral compromise is on the table? Sorry to Bother You answers with an otherworldly, genre-busting roller coaster filled with colorful characters like Detroit (Tessa Thompson), featured in this exclusive clip.

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’s title may be self-explanatory, but the joyous familial fantasy has a lot to say about mothers, fathers, daughters, and friends. Plan a sing-along and get into the ABBA-powered groove.

Children are the future – a dystopian one in this case. Amandla Stenberg leads a cast of super-powered young adults caught between those who would use them and those who would hide them away in Darkest Minds.

You’ve seen them battle villains, monsters, and adolescent angst in the shadow of older superheroes; now you can finally watch Teen Titans GO! to the Movies. This light-hearted family adventure is titanically packed with superheroic action, laughs and cameos.

NEW TO RENT

Ghosts and goblins meet rest and relaxation as the Hotel Transylvania 3 crew take to the sea for a family-friendly vampiric vacation that’s anything but normal.

One small jump for The Rock, one giant leap towards saving his family. With everything on the line, action’s main man is scaling new heights to show these terrorists who’s on top in Skyscraper.

In Unfriended: Dark Web, the cyber-terror is coming from inside the house. Experience the modern age of horror as a group of friends enter the corner of the internet that no one comes back from.

TV

The war is over, but the nightmare has just begun. Horror and comic fans should run, don’t walk to new episodes of The Walking Dead.

Kids grow up so fast, especially super-speedster ones. Watch The Flash race to show his time-travelling daughter the ropes as they face a new threat in new episodes, starting tomorrow 10/10.

NEW THIS WEEK: SKYSCRAPER, HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 3, AND MORE

PLUS RENTALS AND TV

FAMILY MATTERS

Whether they’re escaping from terrorists, relaxing at sea, or just navigating middle school, families are at the heart of this week’s new releases.

One 225-story-tall building, one out of control fire, and dozens of highly-trained killers vs. Dwayne Johnson (and family). It’s going to be a close one. Hollywood’s towering hero meets the one enemy he can’t punch, persuade, or piledrive: a Skyscraper.

This vacation is centuries overdue. With a growing family, monstrously demanding guests, and a frighteningly empty social calendar, Dracula’s ready to hit the high seas for some much-needed R&R in Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation. Destination: spooky fun for the whole family.

Eighth Grade is awkward for everyone, and social media hasn’t made it any easier. If Kayla can just make it through her last week while minimizing anxiety attacks, dad-related embarrassment, and boy-related pressures, high school just might turn out a little better.

NEW TO RENT

He aided the rebellion against the dreaded Galactic Empire. He made the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs (give or take). His best friend is a Wookie. His name is Han Solo, and his untold origins are finally available in Solo: A Star Wars Story

What happens to the mutants who aren’t X-Men? For one family on the run, the answer is danger, discovery, and deception at every turn. Watch the season premiere of The Gifted, free later this week.

Don’t let the couture fool you. These felonious fashionistas are here for a good time and some serious crime, and they’ve got a few unexpected tricks up their sleeves in Ocean’s 8.
