FANDANGO UNITES ITS TWO POPULAR STREAMING SERVICES ON VUDU, CREATING THE ULTIMATE ON-DEMAND ENTERTAINMENT PLATFORM – NEW SERVICE WILL BECOME THE OFFICIAL MOVIE AND TV STORE ON ROKU

The New Vudu Will Offer More Than 200,000 New Release and Catalog Titles to Rent or Buy Including “F9: The Fast Saga,” “A Quiet Place Part II,” “Peter Rabbit 2,” Pixar’s “Luca” and Thousands of Titles to Watch for Free

LOS ANGELES (AUGUST 3, 2021) – Fandango, the ultimate digital network for all things entertainment, announced today that it is uniting its two popular movie and TV streaming services, Vudu and FandangoNOW, creating a bigger, better on-demand entertainment platform on Vudu. Starting today, the newly updated Vudu will replace FandangoNOW as the official movie and TV store on Roku®, the No. 1 TV streaming platform in the U.S[1].  Vudu uses Roku Pay, a fast and simple way to pay on Roku streaming devices.

The new Vudu service will offer more than 200,000 new release and catalog movies and TV shows to rent or buy, including the largest collection of 4K UHD titles and thousands of titles to watch for free – all with no subscription required. Top new releases available on Vudu include “F9: The Fast Saga,” Pixar’s “Luca,” “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It,” “Peter Rabbit 2,” “The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard,” “A Quiet Place Part II,” Disney’s “Cruella,” “Godzilla vs. Kong,” “In the Heights” and more. Arriving next Tuesday on Vudu is Marvel Studios’ “Black Widow.”

Vudu, which was acquired by Fandango in 2020, is available in more than 75 million U.S. TV-connected device households, according to The NPD Group*. Vudu has more than 60 million registered users and serves millions of consumers daily across Smart TVs, connected devices, mobile and online. “At Fandango, we’ve been building a digital network that super-serves tens of millions of fans across the entire entertainment lifecycle, from movie and TV discovery with Rotten Tomatoes, to our three theatrical ticketing apps and now an even larger scale Vudu on-demand streaming destination,” said Fandango President Paul Yanover. “During a time where consumers have a myriad of viewing options, we’re proud to deliver a service that presents an unparalleled library of content, many titles that are not available on subscription services, and the flexibility to pay as you go.”

“Consumer excitement for premium video on-demand has grown significantly as users turn to streaming to access the latest movies and TV show releases,” said Tedd Cittadine, Vice President, Content Partnerships, Roku. “We’re thrilled to continue our long-standing partnership with Fandango as we build a future where all TV will be streamed by creating a seamless experience for users to discover and enjoy premium video on-demand releases.”

Vudu delivers multiple 4K Ultra HD audio-visual experiences, including premium formats such as Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision and is available on the industry’s widest selection of platforms and devices such as Samsung, LG and Vizio Smart TVs, the Roku platform, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Xfinity X1 and Xfinity Flex, PlayStation, Xbox, TiVo and more. Other benefits include personalized deals with Mix & Match bundles; family-friendly features like Kids Mode; and everything consumers need to manage their digital collections, such as list-building and easy ways to transfer physical discs to digital.

Today’s launch furthers Fandango’s mission to usher fans to premium entertainment experiences when and where they want them – in theaters on the big screen, at home and on the go. By bringing its two services together on Vudu, Fandango will be able to rapidly innovate and make bolder, faster enhancements to benefit consumers and partners, especially important during an ever-changing media landscape. Vudu’s size, reach and breadth of content, paired with Fandango’s scale in theatrical ticketing, will provide even more opportunities for studios, brands and marketers to reach a massive high value entertainment audience.

Starting today, FandangoNOW customers can transfer their accounts and movie and TV collections to Vudu. Access to their libraries will thereafter be provided through Vudu. The Movie Store and TV Store on Roku devices will automatically update from FandangoNOW to the new Vudu.

GETTING THE MOST FROM OUR NEW VUDU FAMILY FEATURES, UPDATED 7/20/2020

Family Play is no longer available. Updated: 7/20/2020.

CHOOSE HOW YOUR FAMILY WATCHES

With how much time we’re all spending together at home, there’s never been a better time to share movies with each other. Whether you want to re-watch your favorites or discover the latest releases with your family, we understand that you want to ensure every member of your family has a safe, appropriate viewing experience every time they open Vudu.

So many of our loyal Vudu fans have asked for better family viewing options to help screen for objectionable content, and in response we are proud to unveil our new suite of customizable family features that you can adjust to your family’s needs and preferences. These include Parental Controls, Family Play*,  Common Sense Media ratings, Kids mode for viewing movies, Kids Store with plenty of family friendly titles, and now Lists, which let you add movies to different lists  – so every member of the family can have their own.

PARENTAL CONTROLS

Get peace of mind with Parental Controls. Restrict what younger viewers can watch and purchase on your shared devices by setting your preferences and controlling access using a unique pin number.

FAMILY PLAY

While some movies may simply be too adult for kids to watch, others may contain a few instances of objectionable content that if skipped over, can be enjoyed by everyone. That’s where Family Play comes in by letting you skip or mute objectionable content like substance abuse, language, violence, and sex and nudity. It is currently available on over 500 eligible titles, with new titles added each week.

We know every family is different, so we’ve made sure you can select the content you’d like to avoid while leaving in everything else.

If nudity and drug use are deal breakers for your family viewing but violence is ok, simply turn on Family Play, select those options, and hit play. If the kids go to bed and you want to watch the rest without skipping, just turn off Family Play without leaving the movie and keep on enjoying the show. You can also create a four-digit pin to prevent kids from turning off Family Play.

For even more flexibility, set up Family Play only on the devices you want. Looking to use it on the family TV, but not on your tablet? No problem.  Family Play is currently available on web, iOS and Android devices, and select Samsung TVs (excluding 2017), newer LG TVs (2017 models and up), and Xbox One. Get complete details here.

RATINGS AND REVIEWS WITH A PARENT’S PERSPECTIVE

We know it can sometimes be difficult to figure out which titles are appropriate for different members of your family, which is why we’re working with Common Sense Media to make finding the perfect content for any age easier than ever before.

Common Sense Media is an independent, research-backed nonprofit trusted by millions of parents and educators to give the best, most in-depth recommendations for family entertainment. As the number one source of entertainment and technology recommendations for families and schools, Common Sense media’s age-based ratings and reviews provide dependable guidance on what you can expect from movies and shows before you rent, buy, or press play.

Going well beyond MPAA ratings you can now get details on adult themes and content like violence, language, and sexual situations, as well as parent-minded themes like positive messages or role models, and consumerism.

Simply scroll to the “Parental Guide” on a title you’re interested in to get an easy-to understand breakdown of a movie or show’s content, as well as a recommended age range for younger viewers. Click here for a list of rated titles.

KIDS MODE

Want to rest easy knowing your kids are watching only age-appropriate content, even if you’re not there? Activate Kids Mode on your mobile devices, smart TVs, and other devices to restrict your kids’ viewing to only Common Sense Media rated titles within your collection and the specific age limit you set.

Whether the kids are using Vudu with the babysitter while you enjoy a night out, or you’re letting them take control of your device, you can rely on Kids Mode to create an appropriate entertainment experience. You can also require a four-digit PIN to exit Kids Mode to ensure their curiosity doesn’t take them out of Kids Mode. And you can choose whether you want to show any of our free titles that meet your age-appropriateness setting.

Kids Mode is currently available on iOS/Android devices, Samsung TVs, Vizio TVs, LG TVs, Roku, and Xbox One. Like Family Play you can use Kids Mode on the devices just on the devices you choose. Details and frequently asked questions here.

KIDS STORE

Our curated Kids Store lets you and your family browse through thousands of family-friendly titles to purchase or rent, and even includes ones you can stream for free. Let the kids take control and browse for old favorites or new discoveries without worrying about adult or inappropriate content coming up in their search.

While Kids Mode restricts browsing to age-appropriate titles already in your collection, Kids Store lets you and your kids browse and discover all our age-appropriate titles in a safe, family-friendly section of the Vudu store. While free titles may contain ads, those ads are also screened for age-appropriate content only, so you don’t have to worry about adult content slipping through.
