DON’T MISS A THING WITH READY PLAYER ONE

And our Ready Player One #VuduViewingParty

Besides eye-popping action, next-level effects, and a killer 80s pop soundtrack, Steven Spielberg’s sprawling sci-fi epic, Ready Player One, boasts a treasure trove of nerd-stalgic pop-culture shoutouts that anyone who grew in the last three decades is sure to enjoy.

You can even experience the pulse-pounding, player vs. player action as it was meant to be seen, in full 4K + HDR (Dolby Vision and HDR10).

If you want to discuss the amazing homages to your favorite films with other eagle-eyed fans, we’ve got the party for you. Tune in tonight at 7pm PT (10pm ET) to our #VuduViewingParty and tweet along for the chance to win prize packs loaded up with iconic gear from your favorite franchises (including a few actual props from the set of Ready Player One). Click here to RSVP.

To fully appreciate the layers of meta mashup madness (which may require multiple viewings), snag our exclusive Disc + Digital Collector’s Set complete with a digital copy you can watch instantly (HDX) – you know, in case you had a #VuduViewingParty to attend, a Blu-ray to collect (shipped from Walmart.com on 7/24), a Ready Player One Rubik’s Cube, and sticker sheets.

CHECK THOSE REFERENCES

Ready Player One brings the 80s and 90s heat with Easter eggs from some of the most beloved animated classics, caped crusades, sci-fi smash hits, and horror hall-of-famers from geekdoms golden age. Check out some of the most unexpected and awesome appearances, complete with movie links for some of the characters’ (and sweet rides’) most iconic outings:

*SPOILERS* abound, so proceed with caution!

The Dark Knight, The Clown Prince of Crime, and the Maid of Mischief are all present and accounted for in the Oasis (Ready Player One’s virtual adventure-scape). Batman can be seen scaling Mount Everest while Harley and the Joker appear as playable characters within the game

Between a Star-Trek-themed funeral and a discarded bat’leth (blink and you’ll miss it), the Oasis may very well be the REAL final frontier.

They may not need roads, but time-travelling The DeLorean from Back to the Future handles them just fine with Wade behind the wheel.

That;’s not just any T. Rex terrorizing the racetrack with King Kong. Fans will immediately recognize the noble beast from Spielberg’s other larger-than-life Sci-Fi thriller: Jurassic Park.

The Iron Giant is admittedly hard to miss, playing a huge role in the climactic fight of good versus evil, and deservedly so given the warm place he holds in every 90s kid’s heart.

Check out Vulture’s fully comprehensive list here, and we’ll see you at the #VuduViewingParty!

THE CHALLENGE IS ON WITH READY PLAYER ONE

The Adventure You’ve Been Waiting For

In case you haven’t heard, Ready Player One has everything – like, literally everything – you loved as a kid all rolled up (like Fruit Roll-Ups) in one jaw-dropping movie.

Post-apocalyptic wasteland? Check. The dark side of cutting-edge technology? Check. More 80’s pop-culture references than you can shake a Snarf at? That’s a big, Voltron-sized check.

Adapted from Ernest Cline’s genre-splicing hit novel, Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One is serving up all the nostalgic and sci-fi epicness your flux capacitor can handle, and we’ve got it in up to mind-blowing 4K + HDR. So if you’ve got Dolby Vision and HDR10-capable devices, your favorite Easter eggs will be easier to spot with the richer and more vibrant colors of HDR.

HE’S GOT GAME

Ready Player One tells the story of Wade Watts, an elite gamer on the hunt for a hidden Easter egg that controls the fate of the Oasis, the virtual world where he and the rest of humanity spend all their time.

Like any life-or-death scavenger hunt worth its loot, Wade’s quest involves puzzles within puzzles like the time-traveling (and suspiciously familiar) Zemeckis Cube. You can get your own limited-edition cube (non-time traveling, unfortunately), stickers, a digital HDX copy, Blu-ray, and DVD with our exclusive Disc + Digital Collector’s Set.

With Disc + Digital you get the best of both worlds. Stream the movie immediately (in HDX), and get a collectible physical copy shipped to you free on 7/24. Disc will be shipped by Walmart.com; free shipping offer expires 7/24 – so don’t wait. Snag some extra goodies for your collection and solve the puzzle – IF you’re up to the challenge. Who know’s maybe your Rubik’s Cube will be a time machine. (But it won’t.)

Watch A Quiet Place, Rampage, Isle of Dogs and More

The Silent Treatment

On The Office, John Krasinski wrangled Dunder Mifflin into a silence contest. But he takes it even further in his debut horror film, A Quiet Place – with the first line of dialogue not appearing until about 40 minutes into the movie.

A Quiet Place is unlike any horror movie you’ve ever seen, or heard, since the entire premise is based on silence, so you don’t really ever hear much at all. Because when you do, it means someone is probably about to die.

So check out this amazingly tense and tantalizingly suspenseful movie. Silence has never been so frightening. Get it in up to 4K + HDR.

And if you’re worried about watching it alone, just join us this Friday for our A Quiet Place #VuduViewingParty. Join us and a few hundred of our close friends as we watch together, chat (silently on Twitter), and play trivia for great prizes. Get the movie and swing by on Friday at 7 p.m. (PT).

Info and RSVP here.

Wreck it Like Ralph, Lizzie, and George

Not that Ralph, the one from Rampage. Yeah, the video game where a giant gorilla (George), lizard (Lizzie), and wolf (Ralph) lay waste to city after city. That’s funny, the movie plot of Rampage is essentially the same as the game – and that’s why it’s awesome. Not to mention it stars Dwayne Johnson – and everything he touches turns to gold. Obviously. Enjoy it in up to 4K + HDR.

Because Wes Anderson

No, really, because Wes Anderson. That’s pretty much the best way to explain Isle of Dogs – a movie that follows an intrepid 12-year old whose search for his dog takes him to a government-sanctioned island of canine exiles. It’s charming, a little bleak, hilarious, and even weird, all mashed up together. Yup, you guessed it, because Wes Anderson. Think The Fantastic Mr. Fox up on caffeine…yes, it’s possible – just watch.

Also worth checking out

Homeschooled kids. We all knew one. Adventures in Public School is a humorous and poignant look at all the rites of passage that homeschooled kids don’t get but wish they did.

Right now everyone may have World Cup fever, but All for One is cycling documentary worth checking out. Follow five teammates on their journey to become Australia’s first ProTour cycling team. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie.

If you’ve been wondering where Mike Tyson has been, he’s been filming “China Thalesman.” Sorry, had to do it. China Salesman is like a crazy 80’s throwback action explosion, with an eight-minute, all-out slugfest of Iron Mike vs. Seven Segal as a crowning achievement. Yes, they fight. Yes, it’s just as you’d imagine it’d be – glorious.

The Endless is a haunting ride that delivers one wild ride. It’s got the eeriness of Annihilation – it even seems to have the same sound effects – but it really creates a tense and utterly confusing atmosphere that will leave you questioning everything you’ve ever believed about reality.

And if you’re looking for really dark horror, then check out Incident in a Ghostland. From Pascal Laugier, the director of the French torture horror favorite, Martyrs, Incident in a Ghostland is equally tortured and torturous.

Pump Up the Silence

They say silence is golden. In A Quiet Place, it’s even more than that – it’s lifesaving. They also say silence can be deafening and there’s no better example of that than this movie. Because this horror movie is pretty much the opposite of your typical scream-filled horror movie – with about 40 minutes of silence before the first line is even uttered. Shut your mouth. But I’m talking about shhhhhh.

On Twitter, No One Can Hear You Scream

Which is what makes it perfect for our A Quiet Place #VuduViewingParty. Typing on Twitter is pretty much the closest thing to ASL we can get, so type in ALL CAPS all you want, we can’t hear you. (But don’t type in all caps, shouting on the internet is still silent.)

If you haven’t joined us for a #VuduViewingParty, you don’t know what you’re missing. Imagine if you could fit all of your friends, and your friends’ friends, in your living room so you can all geek out to a great movie – and win awesome prizes – yeah, that’s what it’s like. Welcome to the Vudu Viewing Party.

Joining the #VuduViewingParty is easy. First, you’re going to need to get A Quiet Place – hello, pre-order.

Second, you’ll need to RSVP for the party and follow us on “the Twitters” @vudufans. Then you’ll be ready to “silently” chat it up with us, and answer trivia questions for some great prizes. Just be sure to use the #VuduViewingParty so we can hear, er, see your tweets.

So join us this Friday at 7:00 p.m. (PT) for the quietest party you’ve ever been to.

We saved you a seat for the Jumanji #VuduViewingParty

Join us this Friday, 3/23, at 6pm (PT) for fun, prizes, and more fun

It’s not a game, it’s a #VuduViewingParty

It’s Monday, but don’t cry, register for our #VuduViewingParty and breath an extra life into your week with the promise of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle!

Come for the movie, stay for the prizes

Joining the #VuduViewingParty is easy. First, you’ll need to get Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. Buy it or rent it, but you’re gonna need it to watch with us.

Second, you’ll need to RSVP for the party and follow us on “the Twitters” @vudufans.

Then when you hear beating drums this Friday, 3/23, at 6:00pm (PT), it’s game on! (If you actually hear beating drums, you might want to run.)

So get ready to kick back, take a selfie, and join the party without worrying about being eaten by a hippo. We’ll be chatting it up on Twitter all the while with fun facts, trivia, and prizes!

A familiar place, a whole new adventure

We know, the original Jumanji is a classic and shouldn’t be messed with – we agree. But this reboot does a great job of bushwacking its own path without stepping on any toes (or monkey tails) and pays just enough homage to the original to be respectful.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is one jungle we don’t mind getting lost in. The Rock rocks as the awkward nerd, Jack Black really makes you believe he’s a teenage girl trapped in a middle-aged man’s body (like, really), Kevin Hart is hilarious as always, and Karen Gillan is amazingly tongue-in-cheek as a wallflower turned video game vixen. Plus, it doesn’t take itself too seriously and it makes some pretty clever jokes you wouldn’t expect.

So what are you waiting for? Don’t be a non-player character, get in on the action and RSVP today!
