Rebels without a Clause

The bad moms are back, and they’re doing Christmas their way – by not doing it at all. That is until THEIR moms show up. Does the coal fall far from the stocking? Watch this hilarious sequel to find out. Sure, A Bad Moms Christmas is a little like a new cover of a classic Christmas song – it’s a different take and you still know the lyrics, but you’ll still be laughing all the way (ho ho ho). Who cares if it’s January?

Coming in hot(shots)

When a giant wall of fire rushes toward you, most people run. Unless of course, you’re a Granite Mountain Hotshot. (Is it getting hot in here?) Only the Brave is a mesmerizing film that takes you as deep into the mindset of this elite wildfire-fighting team, and what it takes to be a hero. For an even bigger thrill, watch it in 4K + HDR.

Holy Victorian era caped crusaders

Batman vs. Superman? How uncouth. Batman vs. Jack the Ripper? Jolly good. Batman: Gotham by Gaslight features your favorite caped crusader taking on one of history’s most notorious serial-killers in an R-rated doozy.

You can also rent Jigsaw, the latest installment of the Saw series. You know, the movies that took Rube Goldberg machines to a really, really messed up level.

You can even cool down (with or without the ice bath) with JCVD in Universal Soldier, or get poetic with the animated fantasy flick Beowulf, which is based off the Old English epic poem of the same name. Read 3,182 alliterative lines, or watch an animated Angelina Jolie – you decide.

Watch Geostorm, Thelma, and Last Flag Flying

Plus new to rent, TV series collections and free, family-friendly adventures

Oh hail no

Controlling the weather sounds great until you lose control of the system. A dark cloud has come over the Climate International Space Station as it goes from preventing climate catastrophes to causing them, and only one man can stop it – Gerard Butler.

Geostorm is out of this world, literally, as it takes the disaster epic into outer space. It’s raining special effects and jaw-dropping scenes of the world succumbing to Mother Nature. How scientific is it? We don’t know. But we do know that it’s an experiment that is fun to watch. Especially in 4K + HDR.

Scandinavian designed terror

Scandinavian furniture? Cool and inviting. Scandinavian horror movies? Not so much. But don’t get us wrong, Thelma (no Louise) is worth a watch. It’s a psychological/supernatural thriller/suspense movie that is as haunting as it is mesmerizing. It’s creepy, it’s dark, and it’s NR – because, you know, foreign films.

In the wind

Last Flag Flying is a poignant look at a father who calls upon his brothers (from the service…and other mothers) when his son is killed during his service. Steve Carell, Bryan Cranston, and Laurence Fishburne come together magically in this heartfelt story of reflection, patriotism, and the brotherhood. Get ready for the feels.

Just how many ways can you die? Find out in Happy Death Day which follows an unfortunate Tree Gelbman (millennials, we can’t make it up) as she relives each day – and death – until she can solve her own murder. Hope you like gore. And 50 Cent.

And you can get frosty with The Snowman and Same Difference. One involves a serial killer who turns his victims into snowmen, and the other satisfies your Red Bull-fueled GoPro video binges and follows freeride, freestyle, and alpine skiers on some mind-bending runs. We’ll let you guess which is which.

Pop the cork on some more movies

The end is just beginning

Happy Death Day is like a dark and twisted Groundhog Day. A really, really, dark and twisted version. The producer of Get Out, The Purge, and The Visit bring you this slasher flick that has a college student reliving the day of her murder until she can uncover her killer’s identity. Rewind this thriller tonight and watch as a college student continues to relive the day of her murder until she can uncover her killer’s identity.

And with the extreme winter hitting the East Coast this week, lots of people will probably be building snowmen. But hopefully not like in The Snowman. This suspense piles as high as the snowdrifts as Michael Fassbender stars as a detective whose investigation may snowball into a serial killer case. Don’t be a flake and miss out on this movie.

New rentals

We’re serving up some laughs with a side of social change. Hit the couch and watch the verbal volleys that Emma Stone and Steve Carell lob at each other in Battle of the Sexes. This movie covers the famous 1973 tennis match between women’s champion Billie Jean King and men’s champ Bobby Riggs. And you thought McEnroe had a mouth on him.

Home, home on the range, where the wombat and the wallabies range. Head down to the New Zealand frontier in the drama suspense film The Stolen, and follow a mother across the territories as she tracks her baby and his kidnapper.

Free movies for January

Arnold Schwarzenegger is back in The Last Stand as a small-town sheriff gearing up for a big-time gunfight. This film was overlooked at the box office, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth seeing – especially for free. Watch this ah-mazing Ah-nold-sized action flick on Movies On Us.

And now that it’s 2018, you may want to revisit Daybreakers. Because if this movie is right, next year everyone will be revealed to be a vampire and the rest of us are in trouble. Good thing Ethan Hawke is here to save humanity. It’s an even better thing that we’re here so you can watch this for free on Movies On Us.

You can also check out Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde (Blonde is the new blonde, wait…). She’s on a different coast, but don’t worry, her outfits are still pink. And if you haven’t seen it, step outside of your comfort zone with Man on a Ledge. Watch Sam Worthington escape from prison and steal a $40M diamond to prove that he didn’t steal it the first time.

The end is near

2017 is almost over. Nailed it.

It’s not the end of the world as we know it, but it’s definitely the end of the year. And you know what that means – it’s time to reflect. So let’s tally up some scores and see how we did in 2017, shall we?

Hits and near misses

It’s not breaking news, but you guys still love your superheroes. This time it was the Princess of the Amazons leading the charge and beating out a rag-tag space-team complete with raccoon and pet tree, a dimension-bending surgeon, and a web-slinging teen. But it was a different kind of princess that rose above them all, a Polynesian one.

Your top five movies for 2017:

If you were wondering, our aging, clawed, mutant friend Logan rounded out the top 10; with John Wick: Chapter 2 coming out of retirement at 13th; and the bricked out Bruce Wayne da-na-na-na-nanaing The LEGO Batman Movie to 20th.

Look into our crystal ball

We can also tell you that it’s not fake news when we say you guys really like movies. In fact, the average Vudu fan has about 28 movies in their collection.

Special shout out to Vudu fans in North Dakota, Wyoming, Hawaii (Aloha), Montana, and Alaska who own an average of 35 titles.

Our home state of California comes in with an average of 29 titles owned. We’re just gonna go ahead and assume that you guys are all out enjoying the weather….

You guys also favor movies to TV. Which means a fair number of you haven’t discovered the wonder of Next Day Air and getting your favorite network and cable shows automagically added to your My Vudu after they air.

You got served

But we didn’t just spend all year adding movies. This year we also dressed Vudu in an array of “accoutrements” that made your experience better – and, hopefully, pretty awesome.

There was a little something called HDR10 we rolled out in November. And with it, we now offer more HDR across more devices and titles with both Dolby Vision and HDR10 support. So if Santa was good to you this holiday and got you some new HDR-capable devices, you can enjoy the color richness and depth that HDR brings to our growing list of 4K + HDR movies.

Recently, we also added Mix & Match to Vudu on Playstation and Roku – and we’re working on rolling it out to other devices as you read this. (Unless you’re reading it on New Year’s Eve, then we’re out partying.) So, now you can get some pretty amazing deals when you Mix & Match movies from the couch as well as the web.

Hmmm, what else happened? Oh, we gave you a great way to give the gift of Vudu and digital movies with Vudu Gift Cards and Digital Movie Cards – which are sold exclusively at Walmart stores. We won an award, a real one from Variety Home Entertainment, and became a Variety Press Play: Home Entertainment and Digital Hall of Fame inductee. And we brought you all kinds of offers and sales to help you boost your digital collection, as well as more FREE movies, anime, and more on Movies On Us.

All in all, we had a pretty exciting year making it an exciting year for you. So, while you’re getting ready to live it up on Sunday night, we’re going to go take a nap.

Thank you for a great 2017, we look forward to making 2018 even bigger and better. Happy New Year everyone!

Don’t be a repli-cant, be a repli-can

Watch the sequel 30 years in the making, Blade Runner 2049 is now on Vudu!

Because now that you can watch Blade Runner 2049 on Vudu there’s no excuse.

The long-awaited sequel to the sci-fi, cult classic Blade Runner has earned itself a 4.3 rating on Vudu and 87% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it as much a fan favorite as the original. And maybe, just maybe, it finally answers the question of whether Deckard is a human or replicant – but you’ll have to watch to find out.

The movie takes place 30 years after the first, and you can make sure you can enjoy this movie 30 years from now too by getting it in 4K + HDR (HDR10 and Dolby Vision) It’s the same price as HDX, so why not? That means, even if Santa didn’t drop a 4K TV down your chimney, you can get the 4K UHD version now and watch in HDX until you get your 4K upgrade.

The hardest working man in kung-fu

Watch the action packed movie, The Foreigner, available now on Vudu

He’s a foreigner, but he’s no stranger to action. In The Foreigner, Jackie Chan is a hot-blooded headknocker who’s as cold as ice, and he’ll fight for you. Yes, the legend himself, Jackie Chan, is back from his side job of teaching the Lego Ninjago squad and we’re excited to report that he’s in top form.

This movie is also a peek at the more serious side of Chan. Seeing Chan take on action in a less campy form (and against a former 007 nonetheless) is refreshing and works really well. And for those of you wondering, even at 63, he’s still taking on his own stunts – and is even a Guinness Book of World Records holder for the most stunts performed by a living actor.

The jury is in – watch marshall

Now available on Vudu - Marshall. Based on a true story.

Marshall is a biographical film on Thurgood Marshall. But rather than trying to do too much by covering his whole life, the movie choses to focus on a single case during his time as counsel for the NAACP. This makes for a great courtroom drama that gives us a much more interesting movie about the man who would later become the first African-American Supreme Court Justice.

And if Thurgood Marshall looks familiar, that’s probably because he’s not just a superhero in the courtroom, but also in Wakanda, the mythical kingdom of the Black Panther. So look for Chadwick Boseman on the big screen in February 2018 (and don’t forget to pre-order on Vudu).

If “IT” wasn’t enough

Watch Nightworld tonight on Vudu. Maybe leave the lights on....

The Creeper is back in Jeepers Creepers 3, but this time he better be ready for a fight. The town is finally ready to join up to try and kill the demon once and for all – but can they do it? The Creeper eats people and has done so for thousands of years, but the townsfolk have machine guns, so, in our mind, it’s a toss-up. Put in your vote and watch today.

Nightworld takes place in Bulgaria. Which is pretty much all you need to know since everything is always creepier when it takes place in Bulgaria. It has got all the horror elements: an old apartment with a past shrouded in mystery, a creepy former caretaker (Robert Englund aka Freddy Kruger), and a secret room shielded by two giant doors with ominous carvings – oh and Bulgaria.

New rentals – get 30 days to start

Watch Killing of a Sacred Deer tonight on Vudu!

Flatliners is anything but flat. With a solid 3.6 rating by the Vudu community, this remake of the 1990s version brings us a whole new slew of med students playing God. And it’s now available for rent.

Man of the moment, Idris Elba, is back in the drama/romance, The Mountain Between Us. Following a plane crash in the remote Idaho wilderness, Elba and Kate Winslet rely on each other to survive. Based on a 2011 novel by Charles Martin.

Finally, from the brilliantly twisted mind of Yorgos Lanthimos (The Lobster, Dogtooth) comes Killing of a Sacred Deer. It’s a dark thriller that’s absurd and insane, yet totally believable. It’s as bold as his previous movies and not to be missed for fans of Lanthimos’ work.

It’s The End of the World, but at least it’s free

Watch the cult classic, Tank GIrl free on Movies On Us!

Christmas is over, and what better way to close out 2017 than with some free movies in our End of the World Collection.

First, there’s the classic dystopian action movie, The Running Man – which just so happens to take place in 2017. (The future is now!) While society hasn’t degraded to that point yet (thankfully), you can see what it’d be like if it did for free with Movies On Us.

You can also check out cult classic, Tank Girl. It’s got all the angst of the 90s wrapped up in a post-apocalyptic action movie – complete with a 90s angst driven soundtrack (we’re looking for our flannel and Docs as we speak). Sure Baby Driver, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Atomic Blonde have great soundtracks, but Tank Girl has Bjork, Devo, Hole, Ice-T, Veruca Salt, and more!

Or check out any of our other free collections on Movies On Us.
